Woman killed by window frame that fell from multi-million pound development in London’s Mayfair

A woman was killed today after apparently being struck by a window frame that fell from a multi-million pound development in London’s Mayfair district.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, died at the scene outside 5 Hanover Square, a six-floor housing and office block owned by a Japanese property company.

A yellow and white police forensics tent was in place today outside the building, next to wooden supports and large pane of glass which had apparently fallen from the ground floor which houses an art gallery,

One witness said two paramedics unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the woman after the accident at about 11.30am this morning. "I just saw her quickly then I closed my eyes, it was not very nice,” the witness said.

"I could see her legs and them (ambulance staff) pumping her chest. I think it was a young girl but I didn't want to look anymore."

Workers said that there had been barriers around the building but had been moved several months ago. The Health and Safety Executive was investigating the accident with the police.

The developer, Stanhope, and the site owner, Mitsui Fudosan, did not comment when contacted today.
