A 28-year-old man was charged with murder and attempted murder yesterday after a stabbing in Co Durham.

Lisa Anderson, 20, of Derwent Place, Newton Aycliffe, was killed by a single wound to the chest. Her sister, Louise, 18, also of Newton Aycliffe, was also stabbed, but was 'comfortable' in hospital. When police arrived in Derwent Place, a man with a knife was dragging the sisters' stepbrother, Dean Varty, aged three, down the garden path. The boy was not injured. The accused man will appear before magistrates at Newton Aycliffe today.
