Law Update: European reform
The annual conference of the Solicitors' European Group, to be held in Cambridge at the weekend, coincides with the publication by the Law Society of their European manifesto. In A Europe for its Citizens, the society urges the EU institutions to consider reforms that would provide a more reliable, fair and open Europe. Proposals in the manifesto include the provision of legal aid for the settlement of trans-frontier consumer disputes, the right of lawyers to establish offices under their home title in other member states, and placement and exchange programmes for trainee lawyers.
