Ian McLoughlin, 33, of no fixed address, was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Peter Halls, a former publican, in Brighton, East Sussex. After the jury's verdict was given, Lewes Crown Court was told he had been convicted of killing another man in 1984. He was given an eight-year sentence for manslaughter, and had been free only 15 months when he killed Mr Halls.
