Dawn Griffiths, 23, whose day-old baby was snatched from a London hospital in 1990 and held for 17 days, is suing for pounds 50,000 damages.

She claims that the authorities at St Thomas's hospital were negligent when Janet Griffiths, posing as a health visitor, walked off with her daughter, Alexandra, who will be three on 10 January.

The writ against the West Lambeth Health Authority says Ms Griffiths 'is a psychological cripple who concentrates upon her baby to the exclusion of all else'.
