At the Eureka] museum for children, in Halifax, Yorkshire, the Prime Minister slayed dragons, refused to 'clock in' at the local factory and moved swiftly through the recycling room. The museum, the first of its kind in Britain, aims to teach children about the world they live in. When Mr Major re- emerged, he enthused about his experience, but said nothing about opinion polls, the disappearing support of the middle classes, scandals and waste. 'It was a fascinating experience,' he said.
Less so for two pensioners who turned up to complain about VAT on fuel. Their voices were drowned out by a group of protesting students.
