Novelist wins 50,000 prize

The richest literary prize in Europe was last night awarded in Dublin to the novelist John McGahern. The adjudicator, the American writer John Updike, gave McGahern, from Co Leitrim, the GPA Book Award worth IR pounds 50,000 ( pounds 53,500) for Amongst Women.
