Two-thirds of teachers are satisfied with their present post, and one-third dissatisfied, according to independent research commissioned by teacher unions.

In five years, 8 per cent of teachers expected to have changed career and left teaching, and a further 11 per cent retired, in many cases early. Teachers said job satisfaction and good relations with pupils were important for their morale. But they were concerned about their status, paper work and the need to have more time with their families.
