Campaigners fighting to save an 8,000-year-old woodland go to Brussels today in an effort to secure European Community backing against the Government.

Dr Barry Gray, leader of People Against the River Crossing, will meet the EC Environment Commissioner, Yannis Paleokrassas, in the latest round of the struggle to protect Oxleas Wood in south-east London. This follows a High Court defeat for the group, which opposes a planned motorway.
