A policeman who failed a breath-test after a collision involving his patrol car was jailed for four months yesterday.

PC Paul Aspery, 33, of Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, was found to have nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol when he crashed into another car while on duty in Eston, Cleveland. Teesside magistrates banned him from driving for three years after he admitted a second drink-drive offence, committed off duty, two months earlier. He has lodged an appeal.
