Pit collapse inquiry opens
Rescue workers were last night still trying to recover the body of David Shelton, 31, the pit under-manager buried in a roof-fall at Bilsthorpe colliery, Nottinghamshire, as an inquiry into the disaster got under way.
Mr Shelton's body is the last to be recovered of the three men who died on Wednesday when a roof collapsed 2,000ft (610m) underground. The Health and Safety Executive inquiry will examine claims that a roof-bolting system contributed to the accident.
