A woman out walking her dog was sexually assaulted by a man who threatened her with a shotgun.

The 34-year-old woman, a mother-of-three, was attacked as she walked on Old Dean Common, Camberley, Surrey. She was subjected to a vicious assault but was saved from further injury when the attacker fled after being bitten by the woman's dog.

Police investigating the attack consulted colleagues hunting the killer of Rachel Nickell, 23, who was murdered by a sex attacker on Wimbledon Common, south-west London, but said there did not appear to be a link. Murder inquiry officers said a reconstruction of Ms Nickell's last walk had yielded 130 new pieces of information.
