Policeman wins crash appeal
A policeman jailed for causing the deaths of two joyriders on a stolen police motorcycle was cleared and freed by the Court of Appeal yesterday.
Detective Constable Robert Wallington, 37, did not get a fair trial because the jury was not warned to ignore a mass of prejudicial material, the court ruled.
DC Wallington was jailed for nine months for causing the deaths by dangerous driving of Shaun Starr and Keith Buck on the Hartcliffe Estate, Bristol, in July 1992, when he placed his unmarked police car in the path of the motorcycle, being driven at over 80mph, and it hit the car.
