Bottomley condemned over prescription fees
The Speaker admonished Virginia Bottomley, the Secretary of State for Health, yesterday, for announcing the 50p increase in prescription charges to pounds 4.25 per item in a written Commons answer, without facing questions in the House of Commons. Betty Boothroyd read out the findings of the Commons select committee on procedure, which deprecated the device used by Mrs Bottomley.
