Mr Duncan Smith, speaking at the conference for the first time since he was ousted as leader nearly two years ago, said the party should concentrate on delivering to society's worst off. He said: "Social justice is and must be our creed. It must be the template on which we set every single policy, whether it is tax or whether it is to do with law and order.
"We as a party once again are in the business of delivering to the worst off in society." He praised volunteering and said the party had to woo the "wristband generation". He added: "When people tell me [we] don't do social justice, I say 'when did we stop?' "
