Overreaction of the day
Good to see Gordon Brown's "bigotgate" gaffe being put into perspective: The Daily Telegraph's front-page headline "Day of Disaster" appears to be bigger than that which heralded the deaths of thousands in the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Put-down of the day
Gordon Brown just can't get a break at the moment. On a trip to a Halesowen factory he tells a worker: "Your company's doing well in China," only to be hit with the response: "Our company's doing well everywhere but I think it's in spite of you." Would have loved to have been in the car after that one.
Announcement of the day
"Due to unprecedented levels of demand from members of the press," a Liberal Democrat press release informs us, a second "big and yellow bus with Nick Clegg and Vince Cable's faces on" is being added to the Clegg tour. Thirsty hacks will be on tenterhooks though, the party's press office is unable to confirm which brand of beer will be in the chiller.
Sequel of the day
David Cameron will be devastated; his Cameron Girls have dumped him for Nick Clegg. In their latest YouTube video, the pair sing: "Your five languages are sent from above, that should be six because you're fluent in love..." The backing track, whispered in true "Je t'aime" fashion is: "I agree with Nick."
Lucky venue of the day
The Radisson Hotel in Manchester, Brown's "debate camp", used to be the Free Trade Hall where Gillian Duffy told reporters her dad used to sing "The Red Flag".
