Eight out of 10 people think it is harder for young people to get a job now than 20 years ago, when the Tories were last in power, a new poll for The Independent on Sunday reveals.

The survey shows two-thirds of people think the coalition's economic policy threatens to "leave a generation of young people jobless" and not enough is being done to help youngsters into work.

Three-quarters of those surveyed called for a tax on bankers' bonuses to fight youth unemployment, and 69 per cent said the Government should focus more on getting young people into work than into university.

ComRes interviewed 2011 GB adults online between 8 June and 9 June. Full data at www.comres.co.uk
