David Miliband is today set to speak publicly about Labour’s performance in the general election, according to reports.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper says that the former foreign secretary will break his public silence on his brother’s performance as Labour leader and address his own political future.

The elder Miliband brother moved to New York City to head up the International Rescue Committee charity after he lost the Labour leadership election to his younger brother.

On the day last week’s election results were announced, Mr Milband tweeted: “Heart goes out to great colleagues who lost seats, Labour teams who worked so hard and of course to Ed.

“Deep and honest thinking [is] required to rebuilt progressive politics.”

He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper over the weekend that he would have "something to say" on Monday.

The intervention is one of very few public comments since losing the leadership election in which Mr Miliband has addressed the issue of the Labour Party.

The Blairite for MP has previously left the door open to a return to British politics, telling the Financial Times newspaper “You just don’t know, do you?”.
