TAX: The average annual reduction in income tax per individual in 1992-93 compared to 1978-79 for those earning pounds 50,000- pounds 70,000 is pounds 8,200, Stephen Dorrell, Financial Secretary, said. For those earning pounds 70,000- pounds 80,000 the average reduction is pounds 14,000 and for those on more than pounds 80,000, pounds 46,000.

TRIDENT: The most recent estimated cost of the Trident programme is pounds 10.5bn, of which 60 per cent has been spent so far, Malcolm Rifkind, the Secretary of State for Defence, said. Anticipated total defence expenditure for the current year is pounds 24.2bn.

POLICE HOUSES: There were 1,614 vacant police houses and flats as at 31 March 1991, Charles Wardle, Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office, said.
