NUCLEAR WASTE: The siting of dry stores for nuclear waste is to be left for the operators of nuclear power stations to decide, John Gummer, Secretary of State for the Environment, announced. He said the decision followed an appraisal, "carried out with particular regard to safety", which had found there would be no conclusive benefits from setting up a central store or stores.
