REGIONAL AID: Moves to make English regional aid policy more efficient were announced after an investigation by the Trade and Industry Select Committee. The Minister of State, Tim Eggar, said they included reduced processing time for grant applications. Targets for dealing with applications worth less than pounds 100,000 have been cut from 45 to 35 days, and for those worth less than pounds 25,000, from 35 to 25 days.

WINDFALL: The National Lottery is expected to raise pounds 1.7bn in betting tax in 1995-96, it was disclosed last night.
