LABOUR'S LEGACY OF DESPAIR:

Self-opinionated MacShane and pathetic Harmon are two characters who cannot be trusted. As a pathetic former MEP, MacShane was and remains economical with the truth and selective in his choice of comments. These dubious comments together with those from hypocritical Harman, produce or try to create twisted views of social engineering. They are like broken records that create poor impressions and exacerbate homophobic views where they don't exist. They exacerbate the situation rather than achieving satisfactory resolution.

Can anyone tell me why we need gay bars, gay parades etc. Why don't we have a gay army division or a gay navy ship? Why cannot people get quietly on with their lives. We can all recognise that homosexuals exist. Gay used to mean being happy now it's becoming rather depressive.

Well, for those who know nothing about the history of gay rights, before we organised these things, people could pretend we didn't exist and we were forced to cower in the shadows. When I first started to go to gay bars, they had to have their windows boarded up, in case they got broken.

Enforced invisibility is the best way of denying people their human rights and marginalising them - just look at how many muslim women are forced to wear burkhas as a means of suppressing their existence.

Bgarvie and over325one are spot on. Why do politicians think they have to promote different interest groups at the expense of others - Gay Pride, black singers awards, I believe there is even a separate black organisation in the police force - would society tolerate a white singers award, or a heterosexual Pride march? Surely these days, we can all be judged on our morality and principles as seen through our actual behaviour towards others rather than sexual orientation and colour? The fact that politicians are engaging in this kind of activity smacks of hypocrisy as they are merely trying to up their proportion of the votes.

If heterosexuals were beaten up, murdered, sacked, told they were evil etc. just because of their sexual orientation, then yes, they should be given some support and recognition to overcome this. Why not? We pay taxes too, you know.

As for this ridiculous "heterosexual pride march" argument, what on earth are weddings or "family fun days" then? I have just been on a picnic at a local National Trust property with my brother and his family and it was packed out with young families with kids. Many of them were driving cars with absurd "Baby on Board!" stickers (whatever that is meant to communicate - "Oh I won't crash into you then...") That looks suspiciously like a "heterosexual pride day" to me.

What a ridiculous argument - family fun days include brothers and sisters who may well be gay, nobody is particularly interested. The point of the day is to give everyone a bit of fun especially the kids. When you accept yourself for what you are without broadcasting it - 'in your face' - you will be truly comfortable in your own skin.

The Black Police association is not restricted to black people. There is a white music group its called classical music. when was the last time you saw ancient chinese, indian or african music preformed and awarded?

It is not hypocrisy to fight discrimination

Why call it the Black Police association then? There is no mention of the word 'white' in the classical music awards. Ancient Chinese, Indian, or African music (all with capital initial letters ie proper nouns) is a minority taste and down to cultural preferences not the deliberate segretation of whites from blacks.

Personally I could not care a jot what the Tory Party thinks about homosexuality: providing, of course they do not make the gay life style compulsory.

However, I cannor understand why homosexuality either malle or female is called gay. People like Ben Bradshaw seems pretty miserable to me.

How effing ridiculous. You can't MAKE people gay. They either are or they aren't. And another thing. It is not a "lifestyle". It is who you are. A lifestyle is about choosing to buy a sofa from IKEA or from John Lewis.

And, frankly, I've met loads of miserable heterosexual people as well.

Actually, I disagree. To perform a amusing skit, tell a joke, read a story, a special event can make people gay. As in carefree, happy, or bright and showy.

Gay is a word that has, in a way become hijacked, to refer to the Homosexual community or person in a derogitory term.

If you are homosexual, use the word that describes you, and be proud of that word, as you say you are of yourselves and your sexuality. Do not hide behind a word of derision.

As for not turning people into homosexuals, there was a U.S study in the late 90's regarding the incarceration of prisoners in maximum security, and it emerged that many of those hetrosexual inmates who had served predominantly long sentences (15 years +) resorted to homosexual relationships, and after leaving prison they continued this form of sexual path.

So not a case of Bi-sexuality, where the person can be happy with sex of either gender, but a seemingly full reversal of the hetrosexual behaviour.

Inshallah wisdom will prevail in all your lives.

sjkillman - Have you ever listened to a politician 'argue'? They never answer questions directly. Either they skirt round the question and are evasive, or they answer a completely different question. Macbeth I believe is the greatest political essay ever written. The thing is not to be thus but safely thus and there is not a politician who doesn't abide by that maxim. And you can't be safely thus by telling the truth.
