A young Tory activist woke up with a large bill from Uber after he accidentally took a taxi home after an evening’s drinking at the Conservative Party conference.

The 19-year-old student, who hasn't been named, was enjoying a night out after George Osborne’s speech in Manchester when he thought he booked an Uber to take him back to his hotel.

After falling asleep in the cab, he was then surprised when he woke up to find himself in London with a £311 bill.

The young man posted a photo of the receipt on Facebook, captioning it: “Went out in Manchester, woke up in London. Checked my emails to see a £311 Uber journey. Must have been an interesting night.”

He told Buzzfeed News that he could no longer afford a Tube journey, let alone heading back to Manchester for the end of the conference.

The man, who previously worked as a campaign manager for a Conservative MP, said: “Well you know what a drunken night out is like. I’m 19-years-old and intend to enjoy my youth.”

He concluded that he must have put his home address into the drop-off field when booking his taxi.
