Prisoners escape after stabbing
Two prisoners on trial for their role in the Strangeways prison siege were on the run last night after stabbing one guard in the hand with a dart and handcuffing two others, writes Kathy Marks.
David Bowen, 29, and Mark Azapardi, 23, were being driven from Hull prison to Manchester Crown Court to face riot charges. Police said that both men were believed to be violent and warned the public not to approach them.
Bowen and Azapardi are among 10 prisoners who are being tried for riot during the Strangeways prison siege in April 1990.
