Reprieve for art gallery
Trustees of the National Galleries of Scotland yesterday agreed to reconsider a plan that could have closed the portrait gallery in Edinburgh.
Last month, it was disclosed that a new National Gallery of Scottish Art would be built in Glasgow to house works now at three Edinburgh sites - the National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery, and the Gallery of Modern Art. But protests in Edinburgh led the trustees to consider how the portrait gallery could keep its artworks at home.
