Rescuer drowned

A man drowned attempting to rescue his girlfriend's four- year-old son who had been washed off a pier at Porthleven, Cornwall. The boy was lifted from the sea by helicopter and taken to hospital where his condition was 'causing concern'.

Stephen Seteram, 13, of Ross- on-Wye, near Hereford, drowned after his canoe capsized on the river Wye near the town.
