Severed head found in attic
Thursday 22 December 1994
Detectives were questioning the son of the murdered 54-year-old man last night. He is also being held in connection with the deaths of Arthur and Shirley Wilson, the elderly couple who were found strangled in their home in Bramford, near Ipswich, on Wed n esday last week.
A police forensic science team found parts of the dismembered body early yesterday morning as they searched the man's three-bedroom house in Acton Road.
They had discovered the torso on Tuesday night when they entered the house in search of Jason Mitchell, 24, wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Mr and Mrs Wilson.
They found a man sitting downstairs in the unlit house. In an upstairs bedroom lay the torso. It is believed to be that of Mr Mitchell's father, Robert, who lived alone in the house.
He brought up his five children alone after his wife left home 23 years ago. Neighbours said he was a quiet man who did not mix well. A bunch of flowers was left by his porch yesterday.
A major police operation was launched after the bodies of Mr and Mrs Wilson, both 65, were found in their bungalow a quarter of a mile away. They were strangled with items of their clothing. Police described the killing as having no motive. There was no sign of forced entry and nothing was stolen.
