Suicide attempts rise by 67 per cent

Merseyside ambulance workers dealt with a 67 per cent increase in the numbers trying to commit suicide over Christmas and new year. Statistics revealed a huge increase in 999 calls in the Mersey Regional Ambulance Service area during the holidays. Statistics for the 12 days that ended on new year's day show that 204 people attempted suicide - 82 more than in the same period last year.
