A teenager whose 15-year-old girlfriend died when he took his mother's car and skidded on black ice was sentenced yesterday to 18 months' youth custody.

Kevin Dedman had never driven on a road when he took the keys without permission to give Natalie Garrett a lift home on 13 January last year.

Dedman, 19, of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, was convicted last month of causing death by reckless driving. He admitted taking the car without consent.
