The Daily Poem: All Legendary Obstacles

John Montague was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Co Tyrone. His many collections include The Dead Kingdom (1984), and Mount Eagle (1988). This poem first appeared in New Selected Poems (Gallery Press, 1989). It is the second of a series of five poems taken from the new anthology The Penguin Book of Contemporary Irish Poetry, edited by Peter Fallon & Derek Mahon priced pounds 7.99.
