Ciaran Carson was born in 1948 in Belfast. He has published four collections, the most recent of which, First Language (Bloodaxe, 1994), won the T S Eliot Prize. Dan Do Dheirdre is a poem in progress. All this week the Daily Poem features poetry from The Given Note exhibition which explores the links between poetry and traditional Irish music. Photographs by Christy McNamara and poems chosen by Michael Donaghy can be seen at the Poetry Library, Royal Festival Hall, London (inquiries: 071 921 0664) until 11 September.
