Kjell Espmark, born in 1930, completed his doctorate in Comparative Literature in 1964 at Stockholm University, was appointed professor of Comparative Literature in 1978, and chairman of the Nobel Committee in 1988. To date he has written 10 volumes of verse, four novels, and seven books of literary criticism. He has been awarded a many prizes for poetry and literary criticism. This poem is from his collection Route Tournante (Forest Books) translated by Joan Tate, at pounds 6.95.
