The Ulster Declaration: Review of broadcasting ban
THE PRIME MINISTER has initiated a review of the broadcasting ban on members of Sinn Fein and the IRA. John Major confirmed in a letter last night to Tony Benn, the left-wing Labour MP, that he had ordered Peter Brooke, Secretary of State for National Heritage, to carry out the review. He expects to receive his report in the new year. The decision comes after Tory MPs protested at broadcasters using lip synchronisation and actors to read words spoken by Gerry Adams, president of Sinn Fein.
