A mother walked free from court on Friday after tracking down and attacking a former family friend who had sexually abused her two daughters.

Jackie Wilson kicked and punched Cameron McIvor, 65, while he was on bail awaiting sentence for raping the women when they were children. They have waived the right to anonymity.

She admitted assault and was given a suspended 12-month jail sentence after Judge Michael Taylor heard that McIvor's case had taken three years to come to court and of the "quite exceptional" circumstances leading to the attack.

Teesside Crown Court heard that Wilson, 37, went to his home in December last year and attacked him. Wilson, of Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside, then handed herself in to police. A week after the attack, McIvor was jailed for seven years.

Judge Michael Taylor said on Friday: "Clearly what you did was deliberate and that cannot be overlooked by the courts."
