A Briton who was held in prison for more than seven years and reportedly tortured after straying into Indian- controlled Kashmir returns home tomorrow morning.

Chaudry Aurangzeb, 25, of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, travelled to Pakistani- controlled Kashmir in April 1994. After wandering into Indian-held territory he spent years in various prisons before he was brought before Srinagar magistrates on 28 May this year. He was sentenced to two years in jail for crossing the border without permission, but was handed over to the British embassy because of the time he had already spent in prison.

According to Stephen Jakobi, of Fair Trials Abroad, Mr Aurangzeb was subjected to electric shock treatment.

His brother Favid, 28, said the past seven years had been "very traumatic".
