Teenagers prepare to party: Welcome to the curious world of the girls' night out

Interviews by Harriet Walker

LONDON, SATURDAY, 9PM: Ella Thorold (pictured left), aged 15, thinks that 'hardly anyone's very original because it's all been done before. 'Everyone cuts up their clothes now - we make T-shirts into crop tops when going to a party. I never wear heels - I'm too tall and they're not very comfortable.'

DONALD MACLELLAN & BETHANY GIBBONS

It’s a Saturday-night ritual as teenagers all over Britain prepare to party. We drop in on three groups getting ready to hit the town...

"I think you have to be into fashion now."

NO!
Let's make insecure teenagers feel worse...

THis whole article is pointless, sexist, fake and generally disgraceful. Shame on you Independent.

This ''article'' appalls me. Why have you interviewed a group of airheads about their irrelevant views on (what they naively and mistakenly perceive to be) life? This has nothing to do with 'a girls night out' as the link suggests and is of absolutely no value. Who cares that these little girls spend a good £50 a month on clothes, and denounce anyone at school who does not actively make themselves up to look like a celebrity as 'plain' and 'not very up to date'? Their attitudes are in no way representative of all teenage girls (although they do represent a regrettable, ignorant portion) and do not deserve to grace the site of a serious newspaper.
I can only assume that this is an ironic commentary on what it is to grow up in today's overcritical, shallow and emotionally damaging society. Otherwise, I'd say some tactical job cuts are in order, Independent.

Thanks for this article. The fashionista in me wasn't that fussed but the sexual predator loved it!

Another fine piece of investigative journalism by the Independant. Who says we are being dumbed down. Some of the names look like they have been taken from my email spam folder.
However much you complain...

What's curious about some girls going out and generally getting drunk? More boring I'd say.

A completely vacuous "article"! But as Raymondode commented - very dull from a fashion perspective but quite thrilling from a nasty perv perspective. I think the Independent should do more of this. Stop wasting everyone's time with supposedly interesting, left-field articles (they always ignore the main stories of the day to focus on some item of non-news) and focus on titiillating photo-montages of foxy underage girls.
