Thousands trapped by Tube breakdown

ABOUT 100,000 passengers were trapped for more than an hour on London Underground trains yesterday after a power station fault.

The morning rush-hour breakdown halted 300 trains after a gas supply fault at LU's power station at Lots Road in Fulham, west London. LU is considering seeking compensation from British Gas.

LU will be paying compensation of its own to passengers, but has warned claims might take some time because a backlog has built up following disruption on the Central Line before Christmas - also caused by problems at Lots Road. Yesterday's incident hit parts of the District, Piccadilly, Central and Northern Lines, and completely closed the Victoria Line. Passengers were kept on trains as LU was confident of regaining the power supply quickly, a spokesman said.
