Two people died in a pile-up on the M40 south of Coventry. Both carriageways were blocked by the accident, which involved at least five vehicles, three of them heavy lorries. Two of the lorries, one carrying industrial resin and the other paint, burst into flames. Police said that it appeared a lorry travelling south suffered a blow-out and crashed through the central reservation.
