Wash-day blues

Yorkshire Water is giving its customers free supplies of special washing powder because discoloured water is staining washing in Leeds. The problem, caused by peat, is at its worst in the north of the city and the company is even offering to do customers' washing. A new treatment plant, due to open next year, should solve the problem.
