Three soldiers were killed last night when an Army Land Rover crashed into an articulated lorry in Markethill, Co Armagh.

The soldiers were all members of the First Battalion, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, normally based in Edinburgh but currently serving in South Armagh, said an Army spokesman.

Three other soldiers and a police officer were hurt. Next of kin were being informed.
