US honours DNA scientist
THE MAN who pioneered DNA fingerprinting, Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, has been honoured in the United States for his achievements. Sir Alec, who helped put Leicester University on the map with his DNA fingerprinting breakthrough in the 1980s, is an honorary member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
The award was presented to him in San Francisco recently, during a banquet to mark the academy's 50th anniversary.
