An unemployed convicted robber was jailed for life at Leeds Crown Court yesterday for an opportunistic crime which ended in the murder of a Second World War hero. Yugoslavian freedom fighter Stevan Popovic died after he was attacked when he got lost in his car in the Chapeltown area of Leeds.

Clive Jones, 26, dragged Mr Popovic from his car then got in and drove off with Mr Popovic trapped by his arm in the car window. Mr Popovic, who had a heart condition, was pronounced dead three hours after the attack.
