The interim President, who was attacked by protesters and left to seek medical treatment in France, is returning to Mali, officials said.

Dioncounda Traoré became interim President on 12 April after soldiers toppled the democratically elected President, Amadou Toure, on 22 March.

Mr Traoré's unexpected departure in May left a dangerous power vacuum.
