MDC pushes for power-share deal

Zimbabwe's MDC party yesterday ended its boycott of the government, giving President Robert Mugabe a month to settle a new power-sharing deal.

"We have suspended our disengagement from the GPA [Global Political Agreement] with immediate effect," the Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, told reporters.

The news came as Zimbabwe escaped an export ban on its diamonds after a summit in Namibia failed to act over rights abuses in its mines. The Kimberley Process – the global safety net set up to end the trade in blood diamonds – failed to take action against Zimbabwe despite its own mission finding evidence of mass killings at the Marange diamond fields.
