Oscar Pistorius 'had revolver at his bedside and machine gun by his window'
Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been arrested over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend
Oscar Pistorius, who has been arrested over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend at his home in Pretoria, had a revolver at his bedside.
The athlete, who took part at London 2012 in both the Olympics and Paralympics, is alleged to have accidentally shot Reeva Steenkamp after mistaking her for a burglar.
In an interview with the Daily Mail in August 2012 at his home in Pretoria, it was reported that the 26-year-old kept a "revolver at his bedside".
The article added that he also kept "a machine gun by his window" and "one baseball bat and one cricket bat behind his bedroom door".
While the home, described in the article as "a bachelor pad", is on a guarded estate, the weapons were necessary due to "this being South Africa".
Pistorius is understood to be being held in custody while police investigate a case of murder.
