Algerian opposition in London talks

London - The Foreign Office received members of the Algerian opposition in what was believed to be one of the first such receptions by a European government. The delegation, which had asked for the meeting, included Abdennour Ali-Yahia, the Algerian Human Rights League president, Abdelhamid Brahimi, a former prime minister and Sheikh Aballadah Djaballah, the Islamic Renaissance Movement president.

In eastern Algeria, Islamic militants shot dead Abdelhouahab Ben Boulaid, 50, eldest son of the war hero Moustapha Ben Boulaid, and a friend of his, Mohamed Benkaouha, 77, late on Wednesday, according to security sources. AFP
