Police were called to a house in the city of Pine Bluff following a report of an aggravated assault
A 107-year-old man has reportedly been killed by a police Swat team after a gun battle in Arkansas.
Police were called to a house in the city of Pine Bluff following a report of an aggravated assault on two people.
When police arrived at the property at around 4:25pm centenarian, Monroe Isadore, pointed a gun at them.
The police negotiated the release of the victims from the residence before attempting to approach the room where Mr Isadore had barricaded himself in.
According to reports he shot at the officers through the door forcing them to retreat and called for support.
A Swat team was also called as police attempted to negotiate with Mr Isadore but they could not get him to leave the room.
The weapons team were able to insert a camera into the home to confirm that Isadore had a handgun.
They then released gas into the room via a bedroom window at which point “Isadore fired rounds at the Swat officers” outside, police said in a statement.
"Shortly afterwards, a Swat entry team, inside the residence, breached the door to the bedroom and threw a distraction device into the bedroom.
Isadore then began to fire on the entry team and the entry team engaged Isadore, killing him,” the statement continued.
It is not known whether or not Mr Isadore was involved in the original reported assault.
He was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher at 7.23pm on Saturday.
Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.
