A Texas prison bus carrying 15 people veered onto railroad tracks and was hit by a train on Wednesday, prison officials said. It has been reported that at least 10 people were killed.
The bus was traveling from Abilene to El Paso with 12 inmates and three prison officers aboard when it skidded off a highway, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said. The accident took place near the western Texas city of Odessa, said Retuers.
Officials at the scene said at least 10 people were killed, according to CBS. The state’s Department of Criminal Justice did not provide details on injuries or deaths.
The Medical Centre Hospital in Odessa is treating five patients, according to spokeswoman Tiffany Harston. She did not have information on the patients’ conditions or whether the hospital was expecting any more arrivals from the accident scene.
