Bizarre 'stunt' leaves magician badly burnt after Dominican Republic TV host doused him with flammable cologne and set fire to him

Wayne Houchin, 29, was appearing on a show called Closer To The Stars when the guest host, Franklin Barazarte, abruptly doused the magician's head with 'Agua de Florida,' a flammable cologne used in religious rituals

An American magician is set to take legal action after a TV host in the Dominican Republic lit his head on fire with a flammable cologne.

Wayne Houchin, 29, was appearing on a show called Closer To The Stars when the guest host, Franklin Barazarte, abruptly doused the magician's head with 'Agua de Florida,' a flammable cologne used in the rituals of the Afro-Caribbean religion, Santeria.

Houchin, who is receiving treatment for burns on his face, scalp and hands, has now reportedly hired lawyers to begin preparing a complaint against Franklin Barazarte.

"The attack was intentional. The host didn't trip and accidentally spill it on me. He intended to pour flaming liquid on me," he said.

He also said he still did not know what may have motivated Mr Barazarte.

"The host's intentions will play a role in the severity of his punishment, but that's for a court of law to determine and decide." Houchin said.

A statement posted on Facebook on Sunday says Mr Houchin is, 'resting, healing & working through the legal process'.

Doctors have said they are hopeful the injuries will not result in scars.

Two days after the incident Houchin posted on Facebook: 'I was not aware he was going to do this. This was not a stunt or part of an act - this was a criminal attack.

'The fast actions of the rest of our Curiosidades team saved my life.

'The fire was put out and I was rushed to the emergency room. I have bad burns on my head, face, neck and right hand.'

The show never aired but a mobile phone video taken by a member of the magician's crew has circulated widely on the internet, showing the American writhing in pain on the stage floor.

"The entire studio was in shock," Mr Houchin said. He said his wife Frania and Mr Bueno were traumatised by the fact that they helped the host perform the stunt without knowing what he would do.

"They are angry and devastated that they unknowingly participated in the attack," Mr Houchin said.

Neither Mr Barazarte, who was filling in as a guest host on the astrology and variety show, nor the regular host, Adriana Azzi, responded to calls seeking comment. Both were apparently in New York.
