A body found in a Southern California dumpster yesterday has been confirmed as that of three-week-old baby Eliza Delacruz, who was snatched from her home in Long Beach on Saturday.

Police are still hunting a man believed to have shot the victim’s mother, father and uncle before fleeing with the 10lb newborn, whose body was reportedly found in a bag in the bin behind a pizza restaurant in the city of Imperial Beach in San Diego County.

The search began after police were called to the Long Beach property shortly before 6pm on Saturday, where officers found the three adult victims, all of whom had suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to hospital. The baby’s mother and uncle remained in critical but stable condition last night, while her father had been treated and released.

The suspect and his adult victims have not been identified by name, but are thought to have been connected. Long Beach police said in a statement: “Although little is known about the suspect, detectives do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence.”
